How we estimate
IRS rates in force for 2026 income (Lei 73-A/2025). A cut to brackets 1 to 6 was approved by Government decree-law on 29 October 2026, with effect from 1 January 2026, pending publication in Diário da República. This estimate will be updated when it is published. Pay is often in 14 instalments, so the monthly figure is the annual net divided by 12. The model is annual tax from the statutory scale. Monthly withholding can differ, and the November half-withholding is not annualised. Mainland only. Rent is a Relocora estimate from published euros per square metre times 45 square metres, not an official figure. The pre-filled salary is an example only, not a forecast. Heating is not included in the monthly household lines. Private health cover uses a labelled estimate (default €40/month). Primary-care user fees are 0. Lisbon's 30 euro pass is the municipal pass. The metropolitan pass is 40 euro. Braga's 12 euro pass is the 1-coroa fare, and which coroa covers a commute is not confirmed. Some household costs are not yet sourced and stay hidden.
We review the figures about every quarter.
Special tax regimes, including IFICI (see the official link), and the Azores and Madeira are out of scope.
Visa and residence rules are not modelled in the cash total. Check official requirements for your nationality.
Napkin math for planning only. Not tax, immigration, or financial advice. Figures are estimates with labelled sources.
